His Glorious Might

May you be strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy,

                                                            Colossians 1:11

In this section of Colossians Paul is telling the church how he has been praying for them and this is included in the prayer. First of all saying “may you be strengthened with all power”, asking the Lord that the church would be strengthened with all power. Not just some power, but all! Knowing again that the Lord gives all good things. And this power is of the Holy Spirit, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and lives in us. Then Paul says “according to His glorious might”, asking that the church be strengthened not by their own might and power, but by the Lords. By His glorious and awesome might that He grants us every day if we just ask it of Him. And Paul then says “for all endurance and patience with joy”, he prays these things that we would then have endurance, a means of pressing on and continuing the things of which He has called us to do. Patience, bearing with those around you and being content with where God has you for a time. And not to have these things with a complacent heart, but with joy! The next verse goes onto say “giving thanks”. We have so many things to be joyful about and thankful for that God has blessed us with in this life.

As I see Paul praying for the church in this way and read more of Colossians I see such a heart for the church and the people he is writing to. And I only pray that God would give me heart for people in that way. Lifting people up in this way and interceding on their behalf. Prayer is such a huge gift that God has blessed us with, an opportunity to talk with and listen to our creator. I personally need to take advantage of that more often and use that gift to lift up those around me who need interceding for.

Application- pray more scripture and lift people up in prayer as I hear prayer requests.
