His Promises

So that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

                                                                                          Hebrews 6:12

In such a short verse I feel like there is so much being said. First of all “that you may not be sluggish”, to be sluggish is to be lazy, not giving 100% of my heart into the things I do, being ultimately selfish. But imitating those who have gone before me and through faith and patience endured through the end to inherit the promises. What promises am I talking about here? Promises of a better life? Promises of a new life? No, promises of what God had shown them. Promises for you and I of eternal life with Him. We have full assurance as it says in the verse before of hope until the end. Our hope is in heaven and our Savior who we will see face to face. Having faith and patience to hold onto that promise and endure till the end. For faith is my assurance of this hope I have in heaven. As I was doing my Speak the Word homework for this week and writing down the gospel message in paragraph forms from the bullet points I had written, I got really excited! I had never really looked at the gospel in such a form, almost like a timeline. And as I looked at it I realized that everything has been completed and fulfilled, except one thing! The coming back of Jesus!! I have never had so much confidence in something in my life, knowing that Jesus Christ is coming back and I will spend eternity with Him in heaven. And knowing that should change my life! Pushing me forward with all faith and patience and endurance I can muster up and to fight the good fight and continue to press on until that day comes! And through all that, knowing that our price to spend that eternity with Him has already been paid. By His blood. It’s like running a marathon and knowing that you already have the victory in the bag, and after the race you get to spend the rest of your life with the person you love most in life. Would you not run as hard as you can and have faith that the victory you receive is worth it all? Jesus has already won the race and He is now giving us the victory of enjoying Him for eternity. That is my promise that I have faith in and that I will wait patiently for, because heaven is far more abundantly worth waiting for.

Application- to dwell on this promise!
