Obedient Slaves

Do you know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?                                                               Romans 6:16

As a Christian I am now a slave of righteousness, and have been set free from the bondage of sin, by the blood of Jesus Christ. Not to say that I am perfect by any means, but Christ has set me free from being a slave to sin. Obedience is a chose though, and I choose everyday whom I will obey, sin or righteousness. To make the decision to be a slave of sin will lead to death, maybe not death right away, but if you continue to be a slave to sin then it will lead you to a place that you will not want to be. But for me to choose to be a slave to obedience will lead to righteousness, becoming more like Jesus. As Luke 16:13 says, you cannot serve two masters. You cannot say you are a slave to obedience and go on sinning and disobeying what the Lord has asked of you. An obedient slave is one whom does whatever his master asks him to do, not questioning his authority, and not testing his ideas. For me to be an obedient slave to righteousness is to obey Christ in every aspect of life, not questioning what He asks of me. Now I don’t know about you, but I question the things God asks me to do and the things He does in my life sometimes. Like I’ve said before, we are not perfect, and will not be until we go to heaven; but I can strive with all that I am to be an obedient slave to righteousness. On this earth I will not attain the place of being a completely perfect obedient slave, but through the help of the Holy Spirit I can make choses every day that get me closer to that. And closer to looking more like Jesus. And it says in Colossians 3 to do everything heartily towards the Lord, not in a way to please man, but with sincerity of heart. And as Christians that is what we are to do, look more like Jesus. In Hebrews it says that Jesus learned obedience through suffering, so if that’s what it takes for me to be more like Jesus than I pray that I would obediently listen to Him and follow what He asks me to do. Even if it hurts.

Application- make a list of ways that Jesus was obedient to the Father and how I can imitate that.
