Obey your leaders and
submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will
have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for
that would be of no advantage to you.
Hebrews
13:17
God has placed authority in
all of our lives. Whether it be our parents, our teachers, our pastors, or
anything else. He has put certain men and women in the position of leadership
over us. And the author of Hebrews is saying here that we need to obey them and
submit to their authority. God doesn’t place authority in our lives to make
life on us more difficult, He puts them in leadership to watch over those in
their care, because they will give an account to God how they led people and
guided them in Godliness. Men and women in leadership roles have a big job that
God has given them, and it is not something to be taken lightly. He gives all
these people the grace, strength, and wisdom to do this, but it is still the
leaders’ responsibility to take that role seriously and not be a bad influence.
And as people who are under their leading we need to respect the role God has
placed them in. for he is asking the leaders to lead in such a way with joy and
not grumbling. Being thankful for where God has placed you and continually going
to Him to lead you as you lead others. Obedience comes with submission under
God and trusting that the leaders He has placed in your life are there for a
reason. I know I so many times look at certain leaders He has placed in my life
and wonder why He has done that, and that is wrong. God is sovereign even with
the roles of leadership in our lives.
Application- be aware of who God has placed in leadership
over me and respect them.
