But if God so clothes
the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the
oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not
be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall
we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them all. But you seek first the kingdom of God and
His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not
be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient
for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew
6:30-34
God takes care of the grass of the field, if He
does such a thing as that, how much more will He take care of us? For we are
made in His image and He created us with love and intimately cares for each one
of us. God knows the things we need and the desires of our heart. He wants to
take care of us and help us grow in our relationship with Him. In these verses
He asks us to not be anxious of the things of this world, like what we are
going to eat, what we’ll wear, or what we will drink. For our God knows our
needs and will provide as He sees fit. Even though sometimes He doesn’t give us
what we think would be best for us, we need to trust Him and realize that He is
a good God and loves us. Instead of being anxious, He asks us to seek first His
kingdom. Paul also says in Colossians 3 to seek the things above where Christ
is seated at the right hand of God. Keeping our eyes and mind on heavenly things
and not getting caught up with the weights of the world.
I find myself worrying a lot about the future
and trying to plan out with God what will happen next for me. Not taking each
day at its own, but jumping weeks ahead of myself. God tells us here to not be
anxious about tomorrow, because sufficient for the day, ONE day, is its own
troubles. In Psalms 32:8 it says “I will instruct you and teach you in the way
you should go”.
God is not just going to leave us on our
own and make us figure it out without any help. If we are seeking first His
kingdom, coming to Him in prayer, reading His word, and being obedient to Him
than He will instruct me in where I should go. So why do I worry about it so
much?
He promises us that He will take care of us and lead us in the way we should go. Knowing that I need to work on submitting that to Him. Giving each and every worry or anxiety I have and giving it to Him. Even when I think I can handle it on my own, I need to lay it His feet and just seek first His kingdom and He will take care of it. I can do this by prayer and submission to Him and His will for my life.
