Filling of the Holy Spirit

Who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.                           Acts 8:15-16

Previous to this verse we see Peter and John being sent to Samaria because they heard that Samaria had received the word of God. They were sent to pray for them that they might be baptized in the Holy Spirit, for they had not yet received that. Philip had proclaimed Christ in Samaria and many people were healed and freed from evil spirits and the city was filled with joy. So we see in these two verses that Peter and John are going there to help them take the next step in their new lives as Christians. As we have been reading in our other books we see how the Holy Spirit is a vital part to our relationship with the Lord and without it we cannot see the works of Jesus in our life.

God has given us the Holy Spirit as a gift to help us in our walk with Jesus and to convict us of sin and remind us daily of the cross. And when we receive Jesus as our savior we also receive the power of the Holy Spirit, to be washed in his presence and daily live out a life worthy of Jesus.

Am I living a life worthy of how God has called me? And a life committed to the work of the Holy Spirit? He wants to do so many things in our lives and fill us in so many ways. But I so many times forget the power we have in him and that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in me! How should that change the way I live? It should be radically changed and encouraged knowing that we have that Spirit in us.

To really let the Spirit do a work in my life I need to be continually in prayer that he would lead me in the way I should go and continually remind me of the cross and the power God has granted me through that.
