He Will Satisfy

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said. “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

                                                                           Hebrews 13:5

The first thing I must say about this verse is what follows this verse in Hebrews 13, the next verse says “So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not fear; what can man do to me?” I as a Christian have put my trust in Jesus and professed Him as Lord and savior because of the grace He has bestowed upon me. And because of that I can be confident, with no doubt in my mind, that He will never leave me, He will not forsake me, He will be my help, and I should not fear. As I look at Hebrews I notice so many amazing things about God. At the end of chapter 12 it says “our God is a consuming fire” and later in chapter 13 it is written that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” He is a jealous God and He desires a relationship with us above anything else. And this God that wants a relationship with me never changes. He is the same as He was in the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the same today, and He’ll continue to stay the same throughout eternity. And as I seek after a relationship with Him I will be thoroughly fulfilled and satisfied in Him! He will never let me down with His consistency, He will never let me down by leaving me, He will never let me down by leaving me to do something on my own, and He will never let me down because He helps me through everything I go through. And with all that, why must I get so consumed by such materialistic things as money? My relationship with Jesus Christ should satisfy every need and want of mine that I will ever have. But because I take my eyes off of Him so much and look at the things of this world, I try to let money and other material things satisfy me. And because God is a jealous God and wants us to seek Him above anything else, He is pleased with nothing less than our all. And as this verse says… “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have” basically be content with what you have been given in Jesus. It’s not wrong to have money, but if that becomes your idol then you are putting it before the Lord and it is a sin. The Lord has been showing me in this past year how much He will sustain me and satisfy my every need. One of my favorite verses is Psalm 90:14 which says “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”  Asking God to satisfy me, not money, not friends, not family, not relationships, not clothes, or anything we can get in this world. Only God can fully satisfy me. And in that I find my contentment.

Application- memorize Psalm 90:14
