Obedience

If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

                                                            John 14:15

In this passage Jesus is telling his disciples that He is going to leave them with a helper, which is the Holy Spirit. And He starts of by saying this verse, “If you love me you will keep my commandments.” The commandments that He gives should not be burdensome and be hard for us to do. But as He says in the next verse, He will give us a Helper to be with us forever. This Helper will help us keep the commandments and help us to live in a manner worthy of the gospel. God does not give us commandments to make life harder on us or more difficult to handle, He gives them to us for our better. To make us more like Him and help us understand His true meaning for our lives. And He says here, that if we love Him, we will keep them. When you love someone, you automatically want to please them and do as they ask of you. And the same goes for our love towards the Lord. If we truly love Him and have a relationship with Him, then there is no way we can live a life that is not honoring to Him and go on disobeying Him. As it says in 1 John, if we love Him and abide in Him, then there is no way we continue to practice our sin. Of course we will mess up at times and make mistakes, I mean we are humans and we will not be perfect until we meet Jesus face to face, but even as humans who abide in Him we should not try to continue to disobey what the Lord says and go on in sinning. Because I love Jesus and want to please Him, I will live my life in obedience to Him, keeping His commandments, with the help of the Holy Spirit and trying to live in a manner worthy of the gospel which He has called me to.

Application- pray in the mornings that the Holy Spirit would give me a heart of obedience and love for the Lord.
