Not that I am speaking
of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.
Philippians
4:11
It’s
funny how the Lord works, because this verse was in my devotions this morning
and it just gives me more opportunity to meditate on it. For Paul is speaking
here of how he has found contentment in the Lord, even with all the situations
he has been in where he has been in need of food, shelter, or even clothes.
Paul has gone through a lot and suffered in many ways for the sake of Christ.
But in Philippians he is still able to say that through all this he is still
content. Knowing that his worth is found in Christ. And two verses later in
this section he says that “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
He did not find his strength in his own power, but looked to Jesus as his
strength. And had faith that with Jesus
he could do all things that He would give him ability and strength to
accomplish. As I find myself at a point now, in our fifth week here in
Guatemala, I am starting to grow weary and tiresome. Honestly at a point of
missing home and those I love there. But I know without a doubt that God has
called me here right now and I have followed His leading. So I need to be
content with where God has me right now and take full advantage of every class
we have, every time I have to seek after the Lord, every chance I have to get
to know my class more, and every chance I have to serve the Lord. For He has
brought me here for such a time as this and that brings me joy. I cannot find
my contentment with people at home or the places I feel most comfortable, but I
find my contentment in Him. And I know that He will be my strength through
every step of this journey He has brought me on, all I have to do is ask it of
Him and seek after Him with all my heart. And like it says in Philippians as
well, “My God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory
in Christ Jesus.”
Application- write down a page worth of things I can be
thankful for while I’ve been here.
After what you have just been through these past two days, I know you can write down how thankful you are for the people that are there with you at Potter's Field. God is so good! He is stretching you AND me, reminding us that HE is in control and HE can provide for and take care of you even when you are away from your familiar surroundings of home. God loves you, Sara. He has you right where HE wants you and that is the only way to be content. IN HIS WILL!!! Praying for you moment by moment and day by day. I love you!!!
