Being a Servant

                                                                                                                                                      3/2/14

Will any one of you who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline at table’?

                                             Luke 17:7

We see here Jesus asking His disciples this question. Posing the question of having a servant and giving him food. I see the picture in my head of a young man coming in from working all day in the field as a slave around dinner time. Walking by his master sitting down and the master reaching out to the servant and asking him if he would join him for dinner. Not many masters would do this, because masters usually look at their servants as less than them and not good enough to eat a meal with them. But God as our master has reached out his hand to us and calls us His servants if we believe in His name and seek after Him. Knowing that I am a servant of Christ, do I have a thankful heart when asked to serve? God has created us all as equal, no man higher than the other. I am an ambassador of Jesus Christ and He has called me to live a life of service towards Him. But when I really think about it, I’m not even worthy to be His servant. I have disgraced His name relentless times and not been faithful to my master, yet He desires that I still serve Him and have that relationship with Him. And I am so thankful for that! And Jesus says that we serve others in His name then we are serving Him. Pouring out the love that He fills us with and giving it to others. Knowing that God, our master, will be well pleased with us. And knowing that he will be well pleased with us should be reason enough to serve. Not seeking a reward from earthly people and earthly masters, but doing it for the Lord.

Application- write a list of ways I can serve Jesus by serving others.
