Will he not rather say
to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat
and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’?
Luke
17:8
What if God were to tell us
that we need to clean up our lives before we are allowed to have a relationship
with Him? That’s what this verse makes me think. What if our master came to us
and said “Before you can dwell with me and have peace in me, I need you to
completely get rid of all your sin and be a new person.” I don’t know about
you, but I would fail at doing this. If this were the case and I had to do all
this of myself and on my own strength, I would give it all I had, if I were
able to be with Jesus after. But here’s the thing... we don’t have to do that!
God has come to us and said, “I love you, and if you will entrust your life to
me, I will take care of your sin and make you a new creation.” It is nothing we
can or have to do on our own strength and our own accord. He doesn’t need us to
‘dress properly’ before we come to dwell with Him. We can come to Him as we
are, sinful and dirty. And God will make us a new creation! If we seek after
Him and trust our lives to Him. He then can call us His friends and children,
as He adopts us as His children and blesses us as His own. We don’t have to
wait till eternity for the blessings he bestows upon us. Granted, we will not
know perfection or full blessings until we see Him face to face, but as we are
here on earth He continually gives us things in our life that we do not
deserve. Showing us His grace and love every day. That in itself is more than
enough for me.
