In the same way, let your light shine before
others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who
is in heaven.
Matthew
5:16
In this section of scripture
we see Jesus sharing with a crowd of people and we hear Him telling them about
how to live a life that glorifies God. Jesus tells us that we are the light of
the world, a city set on a hill that shines light to the people around us;
being examples and lights to bring people to Jesus. We as Christians must do
everything to the glory of Jesus, not taking any glory or fame for our own. For
all we do to serve Jesus should be a result of our love and devotion to Him. He
has asked us to live a life worthy of the calling which He has given us and to
rejoice in everything. As we have been learning, if we truly give our lives to
the Lord and trust Him with our lives then we will have freedom in our
obedience and submission to Jesus. And in our obedience we do acts of worship
that bring joy to Him. As we bring joy to Him people around us will see our
love and joy in serving Him and will bring glory to someone; whether that be us
or Jesus is up to the way we serve. If we serve in a way that will bring glory
to ourselves than we are serving in vain, because we don’t deserve any praise
of our own. But if we serve in a way that brings glory to the Lord and in a way
that people will notice Jesus and not us than that is the way we need to
continue to serve. As we serve not being boastful, not bringing attention to
ourselves, not doing it in a way that makes us look better, but makes Jesus
look better and where people can see Him working through us. For Jesus Christ
alone deserves all the glory and fame we ever give and think we deserve. He
lives in us and works through us each day to make us more like Himself.
Application- as I serve consciously do it in a way that does
not bring attention to myself.
