Do not think that I
have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them
but to fulfill them.
Matthew
5:17
Jesus is the one man in
history prophesied to come to fulfill the law and bring life to the nation. He
is the man that Pharisees looked at with contempt because they didn’t agree
with how he lived; because He didn’t keep all the laws that they set forth. But
their laws were not from the bible, they had made rules and regulations to
almost everything done in that time. They got upset at Jesus once for healing a
man on the Sabbath because they thought was him working and not resting. They
looked at him while he sat with sinners and prostitutes and were filled with
disgust because they thought they were better than them. As these people try to
keep the law and make it religious and liberal, Jesus is standing right in
front of them as the one who came to fulfill the law that men would not have to
try on their own to live by it daily. Yes, of course we should try to keep the Ten
Commandments and live by them, but there is no way that we can 100% of the time
while we are in our human nature. We will not be perfect until we see Jesus
face to face. And if we try to work to get our salvation it will all be done in
vain. For Christ came and finished the work needed for us to get to heaven. He
didn’t come to this earth to get rid of the law, but to fulfill it and make a
way for us to get to heaven without being slaves to the law. For God knew that
we as human sinners could not completely keep the law and be perfect, we are
human being in a fallen and sinful world. So He made that way for us.
Fulfilling the law which He set forth in the first place. So the law should not
condemn us any longer, because we have freedom in Jesus. Freedom to love our
lives for Him, not continuing in sin, and knowing all the work has been done
for us to receive salvation. All we must do now is repent and trust in Jesus. As
Paul says in Romans 8:2- ‘For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in
Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.’ We are set free from the bondage
of the law.
