Thank the Lord

Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded?

                                             Luke 17:9

As a servant of Christ I serve Jesus by serving others. I give of my time, my money, my possessions, my desires; to give to those around me. And even though this is my command, to serve others, I still selfishly expect a ‘thank you’ all the time. Just for doing what I have been told to do. In this verse you can look at it from two sides; being the one saying thank you and the one receiving the thank you. When someone does something for me I need to be thankful for their kindness towards me and their act of dying to self. Especially when I look at what Jesus has done for me. Knowing that he came to this earth to become a servant and serve His creation and die for them. All my thankfulness should stem from that and what Christ, the ultimate servant, has done for me. And because He has loved me and served me to the utmost, my response should be to serve others for Jesus. And when I do that to not always expect a “Thank you”, because I’m just doing what I’m told. As I pick up trash on the ground, as I clean the tables after lunch, as I mop the bedroom floor, as I make my roommates bed, as I do anything.. I do not deserve, or let alone should I expect, a “thank you”. Jesus alone deserves all our thanks and praise. Now that’s not to say we can’t say thank you to someone when they do something for us, we definitely should! But I need to put my thankfulness to Jesus above that and realize that it is because of Him that others can bless me and it is because of Him that I can bless those around me. And realizing and living this out will give me a new light on my day and my thankfulness towards the one who has saved me.

Application- look at everything I’m given and how people serve me and thank the Lord.
