And be found in Him,
not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which
comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on
faith.
Philippians
3:9
As I read this verse over and over again
the first part really sticks out to me, to be found in Him. Knowing the verse
that came before it and realizing that Paul is counting all things as loss for
the worth of knowing, gaining, and being found in Jesus Christ. Having an
intimate and deep relationship with Him and gaining His presence and peace, and
then to add onto all those amazing things, to be found in Him. My righteousness
is not found in myself, it is completely and utterly dependent on the finished
work of Jesus. My life is not even found in my own works or abilities, it is
found in Christ. If I truly have that deep relationship with Him and count all
things as loss compared to knowing Him, then my life will be found in nothing
else other than in Him. Colossians 3 comes to mind again as it says “for you
have died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” My life, the
entirety of my existence and being, is found in my creator. It is in the hands
of the one who saved me from my sin. If that doesn’t comfort you I don’t know
what will. For I count all things as loss, my ability to wake up in the
morning, the air I breathe, my desire to one day get married, my friends, my
family, compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus my Savior. Just knowing
Him goes beyond anything I will ever gain in this lifetime. As Solomon says in
Ecclesiastes, “All is vanity”. The only thing that counts for anything in
eternity is Jesus and how I live my life for Him. As I said before, my
righteousness is not even my own. “For it is God who works in you!” Philippians
2:13.
