For truly, I say to
you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from
the Law until all is accomplished.
Matthew
5:18
What does Jesus mean here
when He says “until all is accomplished”? Does He mean the law will be around
until the end of time? That it will govern our lives until He returns again? I
think He means that the law will always be here, God has given each man a sense
of morality and a knowing that death is not the end. For in Ecclesiastes
Solomon says that God has set eternity in the hearts of all men. With the law
in the land still, must we live by it until all is accomplished? Until Jesus
comes back? The law is there for us to live by but also realize our desperate
need for a savior. Because we as humans cannot keep the law to perfection and
we will fail everyday if try to keep everything in the law. For Jesus said that
if I even think a hateful thought about someone I have committed murder in my
heart. There is no way that I will ever be able to keep the law. And God knew
that, that is why He sent Jesus to fulfill the law and make that payment for us
and give us the free gift of eternal life with Him. Without the death and
resurrection of Jesus we would be at a loss, for we will always fail if we try
to get salvation by our own works. When Jesus comes back to gather His people
up all will be accomplished. At that time we will need no law to live by
because we will be in His presence and there will be no need for something to
point to our need for Jesus. Because all will be accomplished and we will be
fully satisfied in Him.
Application- Be thankful to Jesus for coming to
this world and fulfilling the law which we couldn’t keep.
