And they continued
steadfastly in the apostle’s doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread,
and in prayers.
Acts
2:42
Jesus has set forth these actions
of fellowship that we should participate in; bringing unity and fellowship to
the church. In this section of Acts Peter has just finished preaching and the
Holy Spirit has drawn three thousand souls to the Lord through what Peter
spoke. This is the next step for these new Christians as they begin their walk
with the Lord. They began by following what the apostles set forth for them as
doctrine and went off of what they heard and studied with that. Fellowshipping
with fellow Christians and following what the Lord has set forth for them to
do, have communion and be steadfast in prayer. Communion is a way that we
represent the coming return of Jesus and how we will one day partake in it with
Him and how we receive His blood and body and are one with Him. As we share in
communion with others it brings unity among the group. Having a group of
Christians together to profess their belief in Christ and His return brings a
sense of oneness in the church, knowing you all believe in the same thing and
want to know Jesus on a deeper level. Praying is also something that brings us
closer to the Lord and with other people. As we corporately talk with the Lord
and acknowledge His greatness and present our anxieties and requests to Him you
begin to become a family. A family of believers in Jesus that all seek after
the same thing. Throughout my years in youth group and different ministries I
have learned that it takes a level of humility to pray with others. And as you
are in a group of people that all come together in humility and realize that
you can do nothing without Him, then we are in a sense joined together. God has
designed us all with a longing and desire for fellowship with other people and
companionship. We need fellowship with people of the same beliefs as us to grow
and mature and stay accountable in our walk with the Lord, and I know that
Godly relationships glorify the Lord. He knows that the friendships and people
He puts in our lives will help us to grow and bring us joy. He brings unity to
a group of people that all humbly come before Him and follow these things with
a sincere heart.
Application- be thankful for the unity and family He has
given me here with Class 6.
