God Gives

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.                                                                                         James 1:5

God gives wisdom generously. From Him comes all the wisdom a man would ever need. And He gives wisdom to us as a gift if we just ask in faith, having full faith that He will provide when we ask in His name. In 2 Peter we are told that ‘His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness’, God generously gives us all things that we need for a life that brings glory to God. It amazes me and humbles me that He has provided all we need to be sustained in this life.

But I know I personally very rarely tap into that gift that we have. Trying to do things on my own and do it by my own wisdom and strength and not giving God any of the glory. While I’ve been here, God has been showing me that I have done nothing in my life and He has done everything! In Philippians 2, Paul says that it is not him that works through himself, but God has done the work through him for His good purpose and pleasure. All that God does through us brings Him glory and joy, and guess what?! It brings us joy as well!!! God created us in that way, that we were made to worship something and if we are worshipping and glorifying God with our life, we will have eternal joy! That’s how much He loves us. I need wisdom every day to make decisions. Making small decisions like what to wear, what to do that day, what to read. And the big decisions such as where to go to school, who you spend the rest of your life with through marriage, how to deal with your kids. God will give us wisdom to deal with all of these decisions throughout our days, if we ask it of Him and live in accord with His word. He will also give us wisdom when it comes to His word. When we spend time with Him and read the bible, sometimes we don’t understand what He is trying to teach us through His word, but if we ask it of Him, He will give us wisdom to understand what He’s showing us and wisdom in how to live it out.

My application for this is to come before the Lord every time before I read and get into His word and ask Him for His wisdom to show me what He wants to teach me at that time.
