Word of Christ

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

                                                                           Colossians 3:16
When Paul says here to let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, he is talking about the bible and what God teaches us through His word that He has given us. To meditate on it and focus intently on what God is showing you. The word richly makes the claim to be flavorful, tasteful, abundant and filled with richness. Not being plain and boring. So he’s asking us as we read His word to let it flavor our lives and how we live, dwelling in us and teaching us daily. And as we do that to teach and encourage others with it in wisdom. Not wisdom that the world gives, but wisdom that God has given you through His word. As we interact with our friends and family to share with them what we are learning and encourage them with it. And all the while doing that praising God and thanking Him for what He has done and how He teaches you through His word. Having a thankful heart toward Him for all He has done.

It’s difficult for me personally to continually be dwelling in His word and what He is showing me. I so much get caught up with other things going on in my day and don’t even give it a second thought. But as the Lord is showing me through this verse and many other, is that through meditating on His word we will live it out more and be able to then encourage others with it. God has given us brothers and sisters in the Lord to share these truths God has given us with. He fills us up so that we might pour it out again to others. If we just get filled up and never pour it out, we will not be able to continue being filled. He has created us to commune with Him daily and commune with those around us with what He has given us.

My application for this is to ask the Lord to give me more opportunities to share what He’s showing me and take that opportunity and hopefully encourage those around me.
