And all who believed
were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their
possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had
need.
Acts
2:44-45
For those of us
who believe, we all have one thing for sure in common, our belief in Jesus
Christ. Not all people who come together as Christians have a lot in common but
their belief in Christ. Christians as a whole are one of the most diverse
groups in the world, not all Christians have much in common other than their
common belief in Christ and that just shows God working through all of us and
how He brings together people who want to live for Him. And as I live my life
for Him and seek to please Him then my heart begins to open up to the people
around me and see the great need the world has for Jesus. As I begin to draw
closer to the Lord I begin to lose need and want of material things and have a
heart to give those things God has given me to help those in need. For all that
I own and possess is really the Lord’s and He has given it to me to glorify His
name. I do that by not being selfish with what I have, but sharing it and being
open to giving of my possessions and belongings. As a bondservant I have no
rights of my own and no need for anything but Jesus, so why shouldn’t I be
willing to give it away? I need to learn to not hold so tightly to my
possessions and hold onto the Lord instead, being willing and able to freely
give of myself to those I see in need.
Application- make a list of
things I own but don’t need and pray for the Lord to give me wisdom in what to
do with it all.
